FAQ
Pork Freeze-Dried Raw Pet Food FAQ
How big are the bags of freeze-dried food?
Our original freeze-dried diets are available in 1.25 lb (20 oz) bags and makes 5 pounds of food once it’s rehydrated.
Do you have to rehydrate freeze-dry dog food?
If you are feeding it as the pet’s main diet, YES, it is vitally important to rehydrate the foods before feeding them. To make rehydration easy, we have made our freeze-dried foods soft and easy to crumble. This allows the food to absorb moisture quickly. If you use freeze-dried pet food as a treat, rehydrating is NOT required.
What should I use to rehydrate the freeze-dried raw dog food?
You can use warm water, low-sodium bone broth, raw goat milk, or kefir.
How long is freeze-dried raw pet food good for?
The food has an unopened shelf life until the expiration date, which is typically 18 months. After opening, we suggest using within 30 days.
What about parasites in pork meat?
We take several steps to ensure our pork diets are free of parasites starting with our sourcing of high-quality pigs raised by local farmers that are free-range and fed a species-appropriate diet of wheat and barley. We also use HPP to deactivate Trichinella parasites (the roundworm that infects animals that eat contaminated meat), and test each batch before it is shipped out to be sure it is free of Trichinosis.
Can dogs eat pork? / Is pork bad for dogs? / Is pork good for dogs?
Yes, dogs can eat pork. When a lot of people think of pork, they think bacon - which is definitely not healthy for dogs or people. However, we use muscle meat which is a very lean white meat packed with essential vitamins and minerals, it's high in protein, and one of the lowest percentage fat diets in our lineup. Pork can be a great option for dogs with allergies because it is considered a novel protein. Pork is a good option if your dog has food allergies/intolerances to poultry or beef.
Can dogs have pork bones?
Yes, a dog’s digestive tract is designed to handle RAW bones, but cooked bones should never be fed due to the potential for the bones to split and cause digestive upset or injury. Any chew or bone should be given under supervision
